This is partly because trends can be affected by single incidents involving multiple victims . Age, sex and ethnicity of convicted suspects
The case outcomes for suspects of homicides recorded in the year ending March will change as cases progress through the criminal justice system and more information becomes available. More than one suspect may be charged per homicide victim and in some cases no suspect is charged . Therefore, the number of suspects charged is not the same as the number of offences. Table 1 shows that the number of homicides where no suspect has been charged falls over time as the police have had longer to conclude investigations.
Different definitions of homicide between countries, although definitions vary less than for some other types of crimes. Court proceedings had concluded for 218 suspects (32% of all suspects) and 24 suspects had died by suicide or died (4% of all suspects). Furtherance of theft or gain accounted for 7% of homicides , and 4% occurred during irrational acts. There were 56 (8%) victims in the Asian (Indian sub-continent) ethnic group and 64 (9%) in the Other group .
